Teaching and Learning

A Pedagogy of Transformation and Compassion

"Students are more than a number to me. They are people from real life contexts, coming to higher education spaces where they sometimes feel alienated."

Teaching is grounded in the conviction that a student's background and lived experience are central to their learning. The tendency to decontextualise students and attribute weak performance solely to individual deficit is actively resisted.

Relationships of collegiality and mutual learning replace hierarchical dynamics. Students are regarded as equal partners with genuine agency over the learning process, capable of shaping teaching and learning strategies and outcomes.

Contextual Pedagogy
Honouring each student's social and biographical context as a resource for learning, not a barrier.
Pedagogy of Compassion
Engaging the whole person, with particular care for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Mutual Learning
A collegial relationship where students shape the teaching process and hold genuine agency.
Transformative Outcomes
Education that produces genuine formation for ministry and society, not only qualification.

Ecumenical Engagement

Faith, Order and Global Dialogue

Prof. Andrew serves on the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches, contributing to global theological dialogue on the unity of the church, ecumenical witness and the intersection of faith with political and social realities in the Global South.

His ecumenical engagement is shaped by his research on Pentecostal ecclesiology, the marks of the church, and the missional responsibilities of faith communities in pluralist African societies. He has presented at international ecumenical gatherings in Geneva, Oslo and South Africa.

As an ordained minister in the Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa, he brings grounded congregational experience to global theological conversation, serving also on the AFMSA Theological Board and the Doctrine, Ethics and Liturgy Commission.
